FATBET goes live in Eastern Cape

South Africa.- The Eastern Cape Gambling Board (ECGB) has announced the launch of FATBET, a new online casino platform, in its jurisdiction. The site went live on January 20, after completing technical integration with the Fundist Wagering Recordkeeping System, which ensures compliance with local betting standards.
FATBET, operated by Swanjohn Technologies (Pty) Ltd, offers a range of casino games, including slots, crash games such as Aviator and JetX and table options like roulette, blackjack and baccarat. It also features live casino experiences from providers including Pragmatic Play and Evolution Gaming.
The launch follows a straightforward approval process under the ECGB’s on-demand bookmaker licensing system, which has attracted more operators to the province since 2025. This system allows for quicker evaluations compared to some other regions, enabling sites to integrate and operate within months of application. The ECGB oversees the process to maintain fair play and prevent issues such as underage gambling.
The board stated in its announcement: “We welcome FATBET to the Eastern Cape and look forward to their contribution to a regulated, responsible and transparent gambling environment.”
FATBET joins other recent entrants such as BetXchange.com and Inkwenkwezi Bets, which launched in the provincial market in October and December 2025, respectively. These additions demonstrate the ECGB’s commitment to responsible sector growth, with more than 20 licensed bookmakers now operating.
This move aims to provide Eastern Cape residents with more legal online options for entertainment while generating revenue through taxes and fees to support provincial programs. It also creates opportunities for local employment in areas such as customer support and compliance. However, experts note that expanded access requires ongoing education to help players manage their play effectively.
