Côte d’Ivoire’s ARJH and the communications regulator outline gambling ad measures
Côte d’Ivoire’s gambling and communications regulators have outlined new measures to tackle misleading sports betting advertising on digital platforms.
Côte d’Ivoire.- Côte d’Ivoire’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (ARJH) and the High Authority for Communication (HACA) recently held a working session at HACA’s headquarters to discuss misleading sports betting advertising on digital platforms. The authorities outlined measures to strengthen oversight of gambling advertising, including mandatory prior approval for gambling advertisements.
The ARJH said in a statement: “The measures include mandatory prior approval for gambling advertising, a requirement for operators to submit their campaigns to HACA for approval and the provision of an official list of authorised games.”
The ARJH is Côte d’Ivoire’s gambling regulator, responsible for overseeing and regulating the country’s gambling sector. It is separate from the National Lottery of Côte d’Ivoire (LONACI), the state-owned national lottery operator.
During the meeting, Kouakou Okou, ARJH director general, who led the delegation, outlined the consequences of advertisements published in breach of the regulatory provisions governing the gambling sector.
Acknowledging the challenges of regulating digital content, Yacouba Dembele, HACA director general, welcomed the ARJH’s initiative and pledged to support the gambling regulator in implementing a stricter framework for digital advertising. “A task force will be set up to coordinate actions,” the statement added.
