Botswana gambling regulator appoints new data protection officer
Boemo Ntwaagae holds two certifications in privacy from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, demonstrating her proficiency in bridging local regulations and global standards like GDPR.
Botswana.- The Gambling Authority of Botswana has announced the appointment of Boemo Ntwaagae as its new data protection officer.
As a certified privacy professional and attorney, Ntwaagae brings expertise in data protection, regulatory compliance and privacy program management to the authority.
She holds two certifications in privacy (CIPP/E and CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), demonstrating her proficiency in bridging local regulations and global standards like GDPR.
Prior to joining the Gambling Authority, Boemo was the Group Data Protection Officer at Capricorn Investment Holdings Botswana, where she oversaw privacy and compliance for Bank Gaborone, CIH Insurance Brokers and Peo Finance.
In her new role, Boemo will spearhead the implementation of the Botswana Data Protection Act of 2024, promoting a culture of accountability and data ethics within the organisation.
Data Protection Act 2024
On October 29, 2024, Botswana’s National Assembly passed the Data Protection Act 2024, introducing new personal data processing regulations and repealing the 2018 Data Protection Act.
The new Act outlines specific responsibilities for data controllers, processors and sub-processors, introduces regulations for handling children’s data and expands the role of the Data Protection Commissioner.
Boemo will ensure the authority’s data handling practices align with the Act’s requirements.
