Botswana Gambling Authority strengthens tourism ties through annual conference sponsorship

Regulator sponsors major tourism industry conference, highlighting the link between Botswana’s gaming sector and the wider visitor economy.

Botswana.- Botswana’s Gambling Authority is sponsoring a major annual tourism industry conference set to take place in Maun. The event, organised by the Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB), will bring together policymakers, tourism operators and industry stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges shaping Botswana’s tourism sector.

The sponsorship was announced as part of preparations for the 41st edition of the conference, which is widely regarded as one of Botswana’s key tourism gatherings. The Gambling Authority said in a message to HATAB: “We express our sincere gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with you for the HATAB Annual Conference 2026.”

Established under the Gambling Act of 2012 and fully operational since April 2016, the Gambling Authority is an autonomous regulator responsible for overseeing Botswana’s gambling industry. Its mandate includes regulating casinos, betting operations, horse racing and the national lottery while ensuring operators maintain high standards of compliance and financial integrity.

The conference sponsorship highlights the connection between Botswana’s regulated gaming sector and the wider tourism industry. Maun, where the conference will be held, serves as a major tourism hub and a gateway to the Okavango Delta, one of the country’s most significant visitor destinations.
