Botswana Gambling Authority publishes approved promotional competitions list
The Gambling Authority has authorised 29 promotional competitions under Section 67 of the Gambling Act.
Botswana.- Botswana’s Gambling Authority published its latest list of approved promotional competitions on May 6 under Section 67 of the Gambling Act 2012 and the Gambling (Promotional Competitions) Regulations 2023. The Authority confirmed that 29 promotional competitions had been authorised.
Published under the regulator’s “Motshameko O Phepa” responsible gambling initiative, the notice reads that “only the promotional competitions listed above have been legally authorised” and advises members of the public to participate exclusively in approved promotions.
Under Botswana’s gambling regulations, promotional competitions involving prize draws and chance-based outcomes require approval from the Gambling Authority before being offered to the public, with operators subject to compliance and consumer protection requirements.
Published campaign terms also reference Gambling Authority approval requirements for prize changes, amendments and dispute procedures. The authority further encouraged the public to report unauthorised promotional competitions as part of its compliance and consumer protection efforts.
The approved campaigns involve companies operating across Botswana’s telecommunications, banking and beverage sectors, including Orange Botswana, Access Bank Botswana and Heineken Beverages Botswana.

Among the competitions listed were Orange Botswana’s “Wheel of Fortune”, Access Bank Botswana’s “Save & Win Campaign” and Heineken Beverages Botswana’s UEFA Champions League-themed 2026 campaign.
