BetBlocker surpasses 30,000 active users in South Africa

The company said the uptake of its software in South Africa reflects the need for stronger national self-exclusion infrastructure.

South Africa.- BetBlocker has surpassed 30,000 active users in South Africa in 2026, marking a significant increase in demand for its gambling-blocking software in the African market.

The UK-registered charity announced the milestone on October 8, saying the figure coincides with a partnership with Free Me South Africa, which is developing a self-exclusion solution for the country. BetBlocker said the partnership aims to address gaps it has identified in South Africa’s existing national self-exclusion arrangements.

The latest figure represents a sharp increase from the charity’s previous milestones in the country. BetBlocker reported more than 10,000 active South African users before the halfway point of 2026, compared with 11,684 people supported in the country throughout 2025.

The company said the uptake of its software in South Africa reflects the need for stronger national self-exclusion infrastructure. Its service allows users to block access to gambling websites and applications without registering or providing personal information.

Free Me South Africa’s self-exclusion platform, on the other hand, enables users to submit a statutory self-exclusion application to the National Gambling Board and the country’s nine provincial gambling boards through a single process. The company says its service operates under Section 14 of the National Gambling Act.

The 30,000-user mark places South Africa among BetBlocker’s key markets in 2026. The charity has also reported more than 30,000 active users in Kenya, while its global active-user total passed 400,000 earlier in the year.
