Angola regulator calls for public support to strengthen gambling oversight

ISJ urges citizens to report unauthorised gaming machines as part of efforts to promote a safer and more transparent gambling industry.

Angola.- Angola’s Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ) is encouraging public participation in gambling oversight, warning that gaming machines operating in unauthorised locations could undermine the security and transparency of gambling activities.

In a public awareness message published during Responsible Gambling Week, held from October 12 to 18, the regulator said gaming machines operating without proper authorisation pose risks to players and the wider community, potentially exposing citizens to irregular gambling practices.

“Combating illegal gambling is a collective responsibility,” the ISJ said in its responsible gambling message. The regulator also urged the public: “Illegal gaming machines? Do not participate. Report them.” It called on citizens to protect their communities and report suspected illegal gaming machines directly to the institute.

The awareness campaign follows other initiatives by the ISJ to strengthen gambling oversight in Angola. In September, the regulator met municipal authorities in Huíla and Benguela to coordinate efforts against illegal gambling and unauthorised advertising. On October 8, it held a workshop outlining authorisation procedures for promotional draws, raffles, prize competitions and gaming equipment imports, while signalling plans to intensify inspections of gambling businesses.
