Angola regulator and Elephant Bet promote underage betting prevention
The ISJ and Elephant Bet used a Cazenga community sports event to discuss age restrictions, financial risks and protection for minors.
Angola.- Angola’s Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ) and sports betting operator Elephant Bet have held a responsible gambling awareness event in Cazenga, Luanda, to discourage underage betting and promote sport as a tool for youth development. The activity took place on October 16 at the Formiguinhas do Cazenga centre as part of the ISJ’s Responsible Gaming Week, which runs from October 12 to 18.
The ISJ delegation was received by Ngouabi Mariano Salvador, head of the centre, who led a tour of its facilities and introduced the team to its community programmes. Representatives of the regulator and Elephant Bet subsequently took part in a round-table discussion on responsible gambling, with particular attention to protecting minors and encouraging informed choices.

Indira Viela, representing the ISJ, said responsible gambling awareness was important for protecting families and preventing betting from undermining household budgets. She stressed that adults who gamble should do so within their financial means and avoid taking on debt to fund betting. Salvador also called for greater awareness of age restrictions and the financial risks associated with betting. He said money needed for household expenses should not be diverted to gambling and that young people’s futures should be built through education and daily effort rather than betting.
The event included a basketball exhibition between the Formigas do Cazenga team and the Escorpiões da Boa Fé team from Viana. A simultaneous chess session led by International Master Esperança Caxita also involved young people and other participants.
Formiguinhas do Cazenga, also known as the Formigas do Cazenga Sports School Club, is a non-profit social solidarity sports association that uses basketball to support the development and social inclusion of children and young people. The centre also offers scholarships, tutoring and reading activities, as well as educational and life-skills programmes. The ISJ supports the centre under its sponsorship policy, using the partnership to extend responsible gambling awareness to young people.
