ALGA spotlights African identity as South Africa marked Heritage Day
ALGA used South Africa’s Heritage Day to highlight African identity, culture and the importance of preserving the continent’s heritage.
South Africa.- The African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA) marked South Africa’s Heritage Day by highlighting African culture and identity, drawing on its recent 2026 CEOs Forum in KwaZulu-Natal. Heritage Day is an annual public holiday observed on September 24 to recognise the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
ALGA said: “The future we are building must remain connected to the histories, communities and identities that have shaped our continent.”
ALGA said the occasion was particularly meaningful at its 2026 CEOs Forum – The Black Table: Leading Africa with Intention, which brought together leaders, regulators, operators and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond on September 1-4. Cultural expressions featured in the opening ceremony, providing delegates with an introduction to South African heritage, while African identity was also celebrated at the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony, where excellence, leadership and contribution across the continent’s lotteries and gaming ecosystem were recognised.
In its Heritage Day message, ALGA said: “As an organisation committed to collaboration across the African continent, ALGA recognises the importance of honouring the identities and communities that make Africa extraordinary.”
The association said the cultural elements at the forum ensured the gathering reflected more than discussions about Africa’s future, with culture forming part of the experience for delegates from different countries, jurisdictions, languages and backgrounds.
ALGA said the forum showed the importance of keeping Africa’s diverse cultures and identities part of conversations about the continent’s future. The association also recognised the performers, creatives, delegates and communities who contributed to the cultural elements of the CEOs Forum.
Looking ahead, ALGA said: “May we continue to preserve our heritage while building a future grounded in inclusion, shared progress and African excellence.”
