Africa’s igaming boom driven by affiliate marketing and technology

With a young, mobile-first population and rising digital adoption, African affiliates are seizing unprecedented opportunities in the online gambling sector.

Kenya.- Africa’s igaming sector is entering a period of rapid expansion, with affiliate marketing emerging as a key growth driver. Analysts highlight that Africa’s young, mobile-first population, rising digital adoption and a growing online gambling market, valued at $1.85bn in 2024 and projected to reach $2.36bn by 2028, create unprecedented opportunities for operators and affiliates to establish early footholds before markets saturate.

Affiliate marketing, which allows partners to earn commissions by promoting igaming platforms and driving new players, is central to this growth. Affiverse Media, which specialises in affiliate marketing for igaming operators across Africa’s emerging digital markets, emphasises this potential.

Affiverse said: “Africa presents a significant growth frontier for affiliate marketing in the igaming sector, with a relatively untapped online market and a developing player base offering opportunities to establish early relationships before market saturation.”

Africa’s expanding influence was highlighted by Mikhail Zhukov, Head of the CPM Department at Adsterra, a global ad network for igaming affiliates in Africa. He said: “Ad traffic from African countries continues to emerge while its quality has enhanced. Major competing geographies here include Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania.”

Affiliates who understand these markets and tailor their strategies accordingly gain a competitive edge.

AI and mobile: the game changers

As Africa’s igaming market expands rapidly, affiliates are leveraging technology to gain a competitive edge, with Artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile optimisation leading the way. AI facilitates hyper-personalised campaigns, predictive insights and automated operations that enhance player engagement.

A 2025 igaming industry report states: “AI and machine learning now sit at the core of affiliate strategies, predicting what players will want next, personalising offers and automating entire campaigns.”

These tools enable African affiliates to swiftly identify at-risk players and optimise retention strategies in fast-growing markets, providing a significant advantage in emerging igaming territories.

Mobile optimisation is equally crucial. With over 70 percent of igaming traffic now mobile, affiliates must prioritise mobile-optimised content and user experiences. This includes responsive websites, mobile-specific bonuses and app-focused promotional strategies.

At the same time, affiliates must navigate evolving regulatory landscapes. Stricter transparency requirements and legal obligations demand strategic planning alongside operational agility to remain compliant while maintaining revenue.

Africa’s rapid igaming growth, combined with technology-driven affiliate strategies, demonstrates that the continent is not merely participating in the global boom; it is actively shaping it. Affiliates who embrace AI, mobile-first design and market-specific insights are poised to lead in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital gambling markets.
