Arkansas closing in on DFS legalisation

The state seems to be near to legalising DFS within its borders as HB2250 has gotten major approval across both Houses of the Legislature.

US.- Daily Fantasy Sports regulation seems to be moving forward as HB2250 was approved by the Arkansas Senate last week. The upper house favored the legalisation of paid-entry fantasy sports in the Thursday vote that ended 25-5.

The bill keeps moving forward to the hands of Governor Asa Hutchinson that will likely sign it into a law, according to the vast approval of both chambers of the Legislature. HB2250’s approval crushed the vote in the House of Representatives: 69-3. Despite the major endorsement it has received, the Senate amended the bill, which means it will go back to the House for concurrence.

Arkansas would tax daily fantasy sports operators’ revenue at 8 percent for users in the state if the bill gets signed by Gov. Hutchinson. However, HB2250 does not contemplate consumer protection or actual regulation of the industry, in contrast with other states’ legislation.

Fantasy sports regulation has become a primary concern all across the United States as about half the states in the country are debating bills. If Arkansas decides to legalise DFS, it will become the eleventh state in doing so after: New York, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Mississippi, Colorado, Virginia, Indiana, Missouri, Maryland and Kansas.
