888 to sponsor NFL’s New York Jets
The sponsorship is under scrutiny as the NFL prohibits advertising of sports betting sites.
US.- The New York Jets have announced that the team signed a sponsorship agreement with online casino and sports betting operator 888 Holdings. While this is the first agreement of its kind for an NFL team, critics are already saying that it promotes sports betting improperly.
Despite no official announcement from the football team, it already displayed 888.com banners outside its MetLife Stadium on Sunday, October 28, while the operator has added “proud sponsors of New York Jets” on its website.
Critics say that the agreement violates NFL rules, but there was no mention of 888’s sportsbook on the team’s banners. However, the site already displays a football player and a direct link to the sportsbook.
Current NFL rules say that advertising of sports betting sites is forbidden, with exceptions made for fantasy sports sites at stadiums and on its broadcasts. 888 and NFL have declined to comment on the deal.
