MGM Resorts’ Springfield casino to open this year
2018 will be the year when MGM Resorts finally opens the doors of its Springfield casino.
US.- Casino Resort MGM Springfield is opening this year after great expectations due to delays set for legal battles and licenses’ negotiations. Furthermore, an official statement by MGM reveals that the company is still working on the construction phase of the US$960 million casino project by MGM Resorts.
“I’m incredibly excited for 2018,” said MGM Springfield President Michael Mathis. “We feel like this is Springfield’s year to shine.” Mathis has also stated that they are keeping “details private until closer to opening day so they can stay competitive with casinos in nearby Connecticut.” According to the representative, the construction phase has gone through favorable weather conditions so far.
The US$950 million facility will be located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, and is the product of a resolution made by the state Gaming Commission, which said that they would allow three casinos in the state. One of the licenses was granted to Wynn Boston Harbor, whilst the third one is still in suspense. There has been demolition and other site work in recent months within the 14.5 acre casino footprint between State Street and Union Street. These works included the relocation of the First Spiritualist Church and the demolition of the former YWCA building whilst saving some of its exterior features.
