Vietnam leaves airport slots on hold

The Prime Minister agreed to suspend a draft that allows slot machines at international airports.

Vietnam.- Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vietnam’s Prime Minister, announced that he agreed to temporarily suspend a draft that allows slot machines at Vietnam’s international airports. The draft is set to restart after a three year trial period of two companies is finalised.

The idea was first introduced in 2015, in a series of regulations that would allow Vietnam to host a total of six casino resorts by 2018. The Asian country would add 50 hotel electronic gaming lounges, seven small casinos for foreign tourists and gaming salon at the departure level of its seven international airports. Vietnam could also legalise the sports betting industry in order to install more gaming venues. The draft that contained the airport proposal was presented by yhr Ministry of Finance, along with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Public Safety.

Until the government solves a measure that would allow local citizens to enter casinos, airport slot machines have been put on hold. Further conversations are expected to happen during January and February.
