US GAME bill to allow sports betting

The US federal Congress is drafting the bill GAME to update gaming regulations.

US.- Sports betting would be federally legal under the latest GAME bill, which would be introduced by the US Congress soon. Federal legislators are allegedly drafting the Gaming Accountability and Modernization Act (GAME) to update current gaming regulations and include sports betting, daily fantasy sports and online gaming as legal industries.

The GAME bill was unveiled yesterday by the House Energy and Commerce Committee and it already generated positive perspectives for the American market. According to ESPN, GAME will replace the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), which New Jersey is fighting against in order to regulate the local sports betting industry.

Furthermore, the US Congress also attempts at setting a comprehensive framework to allow states’ governments to release further legislations on daily fantasy sports and online gaming operations. GAME was explained to the local press by Rep. Frank Pallone, D-New Jersey, Ranking Member of the congressional committee.

“Despite the federal gaming laws in place today, Americans are betting up to $400 billion a year on sporting events alone,” Pallone said in a statement announcing the legislation. “It’s time to recognise that the laws are outdated, and the GAME Act will modernise them by increasing transparency, integrity, and consumer protections.”

GAME bill also contemplates updating gaming licenses countrywide and verifying players’ information to secure legal access to platforms. Problem gamblers would also be attended by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, as ESPN highlighted.

As a former casino entrepreneur, current US President Donald Trump has been considered more likely to approve federal gaming expansion. “President Trump will have sports betting legislation on his desk during his term,” stated American Gaming Association president and CEO Geoff Freeman.
