Sports betting activity doubles in New Jersey

The state gaming regulator reported that during September activity in the state almost doubled.

US.- According to information from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) released on Friday, sports betting activity in the state nearly doubled in September, mainly because of the start of the NFL season in the country.

The figures show that sports betting activity reached the US$183.9 million mark in September – almost double August’s US$95.6 million. It is believed that the start of the football season and a new wave of internet gamblers helped September’s impressive performance.

On-site sports bets placed at casinos increased to US$79 million, which is US$5.1 million more than August and represents a 7% increase. However, that number was overshadowed by internet bets, which stand at US$104.9 million, approximately US$80 million more than August’s US$21.7 million

The sports betting growth in September helped the state increase the total gaming revenue by 19.5% to US$281.7 million, DGE Director David Rebuck said in a statement. So far in 2018, total gaming revenue is up 5.4% to US$2.15 billion.
