Sports betting industry grows in France

French regulator ARJEL shared an optimistic report on sports betting industry.

France.- The regulating authority of the iGaming industry in France, ARJEL, has released its latest report on sports betting operations from April to June. According to the document, the industry grew to US$741 million on the period ending in June 30. The second quarter of the year closed with new records for the sports betting sector.

ARJEL’s report shows a growth of 9 percent compared to the same period of 2016, which represents a new record for a quarterly period, as published by CalvinAyre. During the last three months, the sports betting industry achieved US$129 million, up 22 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, pre-bonus sports margins grew 1.9 points.

ARJEL said that the exponential rise of the sports betting numbers are influenced by a weave of new registered bettors in the country. The three most important sports when it comes to betting are still football, basketball and tennis, with the first being the most popular. Moreover, the number of female sports betting players also increased 40 percent to 79k, twice the percentage of male bettors, and it also became the favourite activity for women, with poker now being the second one.

Sports betting has been showing a steady growth, specially when compared to the same period a year before, since the European country regulated the market back in 2010.
