According to the government, Nigerian Lottery is designed to generate money for “the good causes” through the National Lottery Trust Fund.

Nigeria.- A renewed focus on the lottery industry in Nigeria is generating some smiling faces through primary schools. The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), the “custodian” of the money generated in lotteries has been designed to give 20 percent of it to “the good causes,” such as giving sports equipment to primary schools across the country.

Acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr Habiba Lawal was quoted by thenationonlineng.net saying that the attention accorded the industry is consistent with its economic blueprint of diversifying the economic base and growth recovery plan. Her comments were made at the presentation of sports equipment to 45 public primary schools in the Kwara State, an event organised by the NLTF.

“Governmenmt is determined to harness needed resources wherever they may be found in order to continue to develop our economic potentials and apply them to the generality of Nigerians,” Lawal commented and added: “Government is determined to devote full attention to the industry to ensure it performs to meet fully, the revenue and development aspirations of our people.”

Executive Secretary, NLTF, Habu Gumel also said: “I call on our lottery operators and licensees and in deed business promoters that engage in any form of promotional lottery to keep to their obligations to the trust fund. As government will no longer tolerate sharp practices that undermine the growth and development of lottery good causes in the country.”
