New Jersey group determined to defeat casino expansion

Southern New Jersey businesses, political and casino leaders have their minds sets on defeating the November ballot question to authorise two new casinos in the state.

US.- A group of southern New Jersey businesses, political and casino leaders promises a “formidable” spending effort to defeat a November ballot question that would authorise two new casinos in the northern part of the state near New York City.

The president of Resorts Casino Hotel and the head of the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey are two of the most prominent members of No North Jersey Casinos. Business, labour and community leaders from the Atlantic City area are also part of the coalition.

Debra DiLorenzo, No North Jersey Casinos president affirms that 23,000 to 30,000 families in southern Jersey will have a key member unemployed if the ballot question passes. The kickoff comes a week after the pro-north Jersey side held its own kickoff campaign to shape public opinion. A recent poll shows voters evenly split on the issue.
