New investments, key to compete in the gaming market

Horseshoe Hammond Senior VP and GM Dan Nita highlighted investments and hospitality as the key for Northwest Indiana’s casinos to compete in the market.

US.- Northwest Indiana’s casinos have decided to make new investments and focus on hospitality at their businesses in order to keep up with the competitiveness of the entertainment market as their revenue stabilises.

According to Horseshoe Hammond Senior Vice President and General Manager Dan Nita, the casino sector is performing nationally better than it is at a local level. Nita states that the amount of gaming terminals in Illinoi bars, restaurants and other venues is the main reason of the decrease in slot machine usage.

Horseshoe has recently opened a food hall, adding another dining option to the Northwest Indiana’s casinos diverse gastronomic offer. “We continue to invest in new assets,” expressed Nita as he explained that casinos are trying to draw patrons by focusing on restaurantes, hotels and theaters.

He also announced the upcoming competition that the new Four Winds Casino in Sout Bend will provide, as its operators are the Pokagon Band of the Potawatomi Indians: “They operate on a different playing field,” Nita asserted and explained that regular casinos pay a gaming tax of 35 percent, while tribal casinos usually pay 3 to 5 percent.
