MMCT Venture to announce new location

The joint venture will announce the location of a third casino in the upcoming days.

US.- MMCT Venture, conformed by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, announced during a legislative meeting yesterday that the location of a third casino in Connecticut will be announced in the next few days.

Kevin Brown, chairman of the Mohegan Tribal Authority, said: “We’re days, not weeks or months, but days from announcing the ultimate location of this casino.” The committee that oversees casino activity is currently debating the expansion of a Hartford-area gaming facility. MMCT wants to build a US$250 million casino near the border with Massachusetts to compete with the US$950 million MGM Resorts international project that is set to open in the summer of 2018. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino near Ledyard, whilst the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority is responsible for the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville.

“MGM is one of the best in the business. I’ve been to Springfield. I’ve seen the progress,” said CEO of Foxwoods Felix Rappaport before the meeting. Back in October, Brown said that the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Mohegan tribes are confident that the site they select will make their facility competitive with MGM Springfield. “We look forward to reviewing and comparing these new and amended submissions and continuing a dialogue with Connecticut’s communities about how we can work together to save jobs and revenue in our state,” he had said.
