Madrid govt to get sued over casino project

The local government will be sued by US casino operator Cordish Gaming over a project rejection.

Spain.- Cordish Gaming has announced that it will sue Madrid’s regional government after it rejected its proposal to build a US$3.5 billion integrated resort in the area. City officials denied the company the possibility to operate a casino for the second time.

This weekend, Cordish released a statement where it was detailed that the company believed that the way the decision was handled was unprofessional, as they didn’t learn that they wouldn’t be managing the gambling facility because Madrid’s government informed the company, but through reports that were leaked to the media by officials. Moreover, the American company believes that the application process suffered very serious irregularities: “[We] igorously pursue the exercise of all legal actions that may be in defense of their legitimate interests against the regional government and the responsible persons concerned.”

The government said that whilst the disappointment was understandable, the decision still stands as it’s in its right to reject the proposal, therefore Madrid believes that the legal challenge never stood a chance.
