Kenya limits slots installation

The government introduced a new tax payment for slots importation.

Kenya.- The Kenyan authorities announced a new measure to control the gaming industry in the country. Local importers of slot and betting machines would have to pay further taxes on their businesses.

According to regional press, importation companies for the gaming industry will have to report their operations and seek the approval of the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination. Once the operations receive the green light, the companies would be able to proceed with previous payment of relevant fee.

Furthermore, the statement released last Sunday by the Kenya Revenue Authority added: “KRA wishes to notify importers, custom agents and the public that the government has stopped the importation of gaming equipment, machines and devices forthwith.”

The Kenyan government began a crackdown on gambling industry last year, when illegal slot and betting machines were impounded by the police. Kisumu District County politicians also demanded in November further measures against unauthorised gaming services.
