Islandia Casino begins construction

The New York casino started the construction phase and announced a new opening date.

US.- The upcoming Suffolk OTB Islandia Casino from Long Island, New York, announced that they started the construction phase and that they’ll be opening their doors in the first months of 2017. The initial opening date for the casino was scheduled for this month.

Delaware North Companies, one of the developers of the new casino, said that when they first started the demolition and construction phase, they discovered a wiring problem and other repair issues that they didn’t specify. Chuck Kilroy, President and General Manager of Delaware North Companies, said that other phases will be continued once they establish the first one, so they can complete the project and open the whole facility as scheduled.

The Marriot Hotel will be home to the Suffolk OTB Islandia Casino and it will feature 250 video lottery terminals along with a restaurant. Officials estimate that the gaming facility will offer an additional 500 video gaming terminals by May. By August, they’re counting on providing 1000 VLTs along with other food services areas. Once they open the casino, more than 300 employment positions will be created.
