Imperial Pacific may delay its opening

CNMI received a petition to extend several deadlines.

US.- The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) received a request from Best Sunshine to extend a series of deadlines related to the construction of Imperial Pacific Resort. The casino is developed by Hong Kong based company Imperial Pacific International Holdings.

According to a report from Marianas Variety, Best Sunshine chief executive Mark Brown sent a letter to the CNMI to extend the temporary casino operations from April to the last day of October. Furthermore, the company also asked for an extension to complete the construction from August 2017 to February 2018. Best Sunshine wants to extend the deadline to begin operations from February 2018 to may 2023 as well.

Ralph Torres, CNMI governor, said that Imperial Pacific is not violating an existing agreement: “There’s no violation. We are reviewing the agreement to allow an extension and to address concerns.” Whilst Imperial Pacific has the right to own a license on Saipan, Best Sunshine is operating the temporary casino. Last week, the contractor of the upcoming casino said that the construction should be officially completed before August, the established deadline, and reassured that the soft opening will happen by the end of March.

The new gambling facility casino would feature around 200 to 300 gaming tables and 300 to 400 slot machines. The 350-suite resort is being designed by Steelman Partners LLP, which has been involved in the design of several large casinos in Asia and elsewhere.
