Illegal gambling in Cyprus receives a blow

The Sovereign Base Areas Police continue with its siege on illegal gambling with a new raid.

Cyprus.- The Cyprus police redoubled its efforts to bring down illegal gambling. The latest operation was a raid in a building located in Limassol where the authorities seized 16 computers.

The war on illegal gambling has been public and notorious, as Sovereign Base Areas Police in Cypruss believes in sending a clear message to those who insist on dealing with illegal gambling activities.  Last month, the force destroyed tens of thousands of euros worth of casino equipment that was seized in the last year. An excavator smashed 14 roulette tables 48 blackjack / poker tables and 13 electronic gaming machines at Episkopi Base with strong media presence.

Illegal gambling costs the Cypriot economy an estimate of €2.5 billion (US$2.76 million) annually,  which explains the determination of the authorities to tackle these illicit practices.
