Good results for gambling revenue in Pennsylvania

Gambling revenue in the state was 3 percent up, year over year in September.

US.- Combined gross revenue from table games and slot machines in Pennsylvania during September was US$261 million, 2.9 percent higher compared to the same month in 2015. Eight of the state’s twelve casinos experienced growth from September 2015.

Table games’ gross revenue generated US$68.8 million, 4.35 percent higher than 2015 and US$2.9 more than in September 2015. Slot revenue shows an increase of 2.4, with US$192 million. Part Casino’s revenue was up 10 percent year on year to US$45.9 million, whilst Sands Bethlehem generated more than US$45 million. Philadelphia’s SugarHouse increased its revenue almost 12 percent to US$23.9 million, most of that due to increased slots revenue.

Last month, the Supreme Court backed casinos’ claim to end the payment of 4 percent of slot machine revenue as a “local share assessment” to certain host communities. The Court declared that the tax payment affected differently the 12 Pennsylvania casinos and ruled in favor of Mount Airy Casino Resort’s complaint, which proved that casinos that generate less revenue than others pay a heavier tax burden.
