Goa’s party questioned sixth casino license

The GFP challenged the decision to grant a sixth offshore casino license.

India.- Goa Forward Party (GFP) has reportedly challenged the decision from the state government after it renewed Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd’s casino license. The decision came up after the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court urged the local government to make a final call and gave them a 24 hour ultimatum.

Prabhakar Timble, the party’s president, complained that the state government put pressure on the high court when officials asked to consider the renewal of the license. “The direction of the high court was to decide on the issue of casino licence as the government has accepted the fees from the casino operator and this stops the government to procrastinate indefinitely. Nowhere, the court has instructed the government to grant the licence,” he said, and commented that the government should’ve made a decision sooner.

“Pleading helplessness indicates that the government, in collusion with the casino operator, had predetermined the design and dirty trick for grant of the licence,” he added. A source from the home Ministry said that the order was issued following the directive of the honorable High Court to reach a decision within 24 hours.
