Gateway Casinos announced $60m expansion

The company is now part of a development that proposes a US$60 million investment to build an entertainment district in Sudbury.

Canada.- Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has announced that the company joined a project that includes the True North Strong Group that seeks the construction of a new entertainment district in Sudbury, Canada.

The gaming company wants to build a US$60 million casino in the territory, as Sudbury developer Dario Zurich and the True North Strong Group are in hopes to build an events centre and arena there as well. Moreover, the project would also include hotels, a motors park and other developments which haven’t been specified yet. It is expected that the location of the project would be revealed later this month, as nugget.ca revealed.

“We’re on the doorstep of greatness. Council, in two weeks, is going to go down in history. It will be immortalized, because this is bigger than a new mine site being opened. You can always open a new mine site, but now we have a brand-new business to boot. This is a new industry. This is a brand-new industry. We’re going to be bigger than Casino Rama now. There will be people that come to Sudbury from the outskirts, as opposed to people from Sudbury going to Orillia and Casino Rama. We’re going to become a magnet, truly the hub for sports and entertainment,” said Zulich.

Senior vice-president and managing director of Ontario for Gateway, Keith Andrews, said that the company is very excited to be part of the important step forward in bringing a major investment and up to 250 new jobs to Greater Sudbury. “The True North Strong proposal envisions creating a vibrant regional entertainment district.  A Gateway property in the district is a perfect complement to this dynamic development.” It is also expected that if the property gets the necessary permissions, it will be open by the spring of 2020.
