Dutch gambling authority asked Apple to remove casino apps

The Dutch gambling authority asked the technology company to remove apps from its store.

Netherlands.- Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling authority, asked Apple to remove 55 real-money gambling apps from its store. Kansspelautoriteit confirmed that this decision was based on the fact that iGaming is illegal in the Netherlands.

The gambling authority also stated that these operators weren’t authorised to provide these services to customers. Apple removed the 55 gambling apps, and some of them belonged to major brands like Bwin and Unibet.

Earlier this year the Lower House from the Netherlands voted in favor of an online gambling bill that would make it possible for international iGaming operators to apply for a license and provide services and products in the country. The bill still needs to be passed by the Senate, and multiple sources confirmed that they’re expecting to see its market regulated in 2018.

The Dutch Senate will discuss the regulation of the local market later this year.
