Demolition continues to make room for Springfield’s MGM Casino

The MGM Springfield Casino project is moving forward as contractors continue to demolish areas to make room for the development.

US.- Over the past few weeks, MGM’s crews have been working to move the First Spiritualist Church to a new location, demolishing a YWCA building and the back portion of the old state armoury, although MGM has plans to preserve the front end of the armoury whilst the rear portion will be removed. All these works are aimed to making room for MGM Casino in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The armoury and the nearby Zanetti School were purchased by MGM for US$3.2 million and an additional US$166,295 in retroactive payments instead of taxes. So far, MGM’s property acquisitions have totalled more than US$40 million for the Massachusetts casino facility.

The MGM Springfield casino project will have a total cost of US$950 million when completed and will see 14.5 acres of land redeveloped in Springfield. The area to be redeveloped includes Main Street and East Columbus Avenue going from east to west and from north to south, along State Street to Union Street.
