Council to challenge Carter Lake casino

Leaders from the Council Bluffs are worried that they could lose tax revenue for their casinos.

US.- After the Federal Gaming Commission approved a casino for the Ponca Tribe earlier this month, Council Bluffs leaders are worried that the new facility could shift tax revenue from them. Now, the council is likely to challenge the Commission’s decision.

Council Bluffs city attorney Richard Wade said: “We will be putting together a group of attorneys that have the experience, we’ll probably be looking beyond this region and looking for some folks that have hands-on knowledge of the Indian Gaming Act how the Indian Commission operates.”

The casino would feature 2000 slot machines and 50 table games and is expected to be built on five acres of Native American land. Matt Walsh, mayor of Council Bluffs, said that the city is set to receive approximately US$3 million in gaming tax money from the facilities in Council Bluffs this year.
