China sets Crown staff court date

The Crown Resorts employees that were detained and charged in China are set to appear in Shanghai court on June 26.

China.- Crown Resorts’ employees that were detained in October and charged with offenses related to gambling promotion earlier this week, are set to appear in a court in Shanghai on June 26.

The information that was revealed on the tribunal’s website also includes a list of 19 names involved in the case, Crown Resorts Executive Vice President for international VIP business Jason O’Connor among them. Only one employee was released on bail in November, the rest of them are still detained in China. Professor of the University of Western Australia, Nolan Sharkey, was consulted by both organisations and governments and that in this specific case, they could be more concerned about wanting to present that they are doing the right thing. “I suppose they are taking their time to counter accusations that they are acting arbitrarily and are dealing with it properly under Chinese law,” he added earlier this week.

Furthermore, former partner of Crown Resorts and CEO of Melco International Lawrence Ho, has criticised a couple of weeks ago the decision of James Packer of being overly aggressive when engaging with employees in China despite the ban on gambling marketing. Ho said that in the instances where Crown employees were arrested in China suspected of illegal marketing gambling, Packer’s side wasn’t discreet at all. The CEO said that he recommended lawyers to Crown, but didn’t wanna get involved since the marketing activities of the formerly merged companies were separate business.
