Petition against Birkdale betting shop

As a gambling license has been granted for the Birkdale village betting shop, some residents started a petition against it.

UK.- The Sefton Council has approved a gambling license for a potential new ship in Birkdale Village. The company David Pluck Bookmakers is currently behind the push to move its Weld Parade into a former bank in the city.

Some residents of the area opposed the measure as they believe that there are enough betting shops in the territory, and adding one more would only send the wrong message to the younger people. Moreover, they believe that a new betting shop would interrupt the ethos of the village, as reported by the Southport Visiter. The Sefton Council will not decide if the site is suitable for the building.

A resident of the area told the news outlet that the next step is to father a petition of at least 25 signatures by June 12. “This enables myself or someone to attend the planning application meeting, when it is listed, and speak for five minutes on concerns about the application,” the resident added.
